Street Fighter
Tonight I decided to watch a movie while I ate, so I looked around at what was on-hand and decided to recapture part of my innocent youth with one of the larger icons of it - Street Fighter. I love the Street Fighter II game, my brother, father and I would just play for hours and had a ton of fun. I was generally Chun-Li or Blanka, fyi. When the movie hit, I was pretty excited for it, how could a movie about Street Fighter be bad? My parents would not take me though. Bad reviews and buzz killed my chances of seeing it in theaters. Later I would be consistently overruled in my suggestions of renting it at the video store. 1994 would not be my Street Fighter movie year. So, time moves on, I get older, get more control on things, Street Fighter slips by, BUT NOT TONIGHT. Tonight, I made the commitment to check it out. I learned something tonight. I learned that I was better off having not seen it. The duo of Jean Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue isn't the acting powerhouse of even Keanu Reeves and the other guy from Bill and Ted. The characters in the movie are nowhere near what they were in the source material, often complete opposites. Silly choices were made to the point where the 12-year-olds who watched the movie when it came out probably felt pandered to. I stopped watching it after 15 minutes. It was bad.10:20:30 PM
