Blow Out

Things have been quiet here for a little bit. QT-Fest wiped me out, then came finals, papers, people coming in from out of town, a lot of stuff.

Right now, I'm back in the home town of Keller, TX where I'll be for a few more days. I came up here because an old buddy of mine decided to get married and wanted me as a groomsman. I was flattered and agreed. The day before the wedding we went out to the gun range (he's in the military, so, fortunately, his work is his hobby) and fired off some guns and such. Had lots of fun. We then had to make haste and leave the range to go get our Tuxes fitted (it was a classy affair). This is where the trouble came in.

About 2 or 3 miles away from the range my car began vibrating and getting to be really noisy. A look in the mirror showed lots of black chunks were coming from my car - I'd shredded a tire. I pulled over and took a look at the damage, the tire was pretty messed up, but I'd stopped in time. I'll post a picture of it when I have my camera cable. My brother and I began to go through the process of finding all the necessary equipment to change the tire, leaving his 10/22 Rifle (the gun used in The Candy Snatchers) out in plain sight. This wasn't a problem at first because I didn't notice it, but when a cop showed up to see if we needed any help, it made me a little bit nervous. It's not illegal to have or anything, I just would rather not have to deal with things.

The cop was nice, and after asking me a few times through the loudspeaker if everything was ok (to make sure that we weren't kidnapping victims or something) left without incident. My brother changed the tire really nicely, but pointed out that we had a problem - the spare hadn't ever seen any action, so over the course of time it had slowly gone flat. So, we're on the side of 1-35 next to Texas Motor Speedway, brandishing a gun, with a flat donut as the back wheel on my car. We couldn't go anywhere fast for fear of doing some real damage to the tire, but we had to get to a gas station quickly to get everything correctly. With blinkers on, we managed to find a gap in traffic and get off quickly on Dead Hillbilly Drive (Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Way) and got to a gas station. The sidewalls were worn much of the way down.

We got home without incident and I was only a bit late to the tux fitting, the Wedding was great and I ended up having a lot of fun than I expected. However, it's taking the tire store their sweet time to get the necessary tires in for my car (I needed new ones anyway), and I'm spending some extra time up here. Well, maybe I'll get some work done.

But, hey, the Mavs won.
