Edwards
Eric Edwards wasn't originally scheduled to be a Master Class speaker, but I'm glad he came. Part of it came from watching "Kids" on Sunday to prepare for it.Edwards has done some incredible work over the years, ranging from Last Night at the Alamo, to the gorgeous My Own Private Idaho. Adding a cinematographer to the lineup really enriched it. I've heard directors, producers, and editors speak before, but it's rare to hear a cinematographer speak, and it's good to get their perspective on the process.
Eric offered insights into the workings of Gus Van Sant (Upcoming Master Class speaker) and Larry Clark, two of the more interesting working directors today. Turns out the timelapses that populate the works of Van Sant are the work of Edwards, he goes out on his own and shoots them all the time - during lunch, after work. Quite a workhorse.
Sadly, his work on Crossroads wasn't featured prominently. I guess some people don't want to talk about their masterpieces.
